FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT |
I have
a confession.
I'm
a huge fan of 'Sponge Bob Square Pants'. The
cartoon with its non-stop silly, witty humor is
the funniest thing I've seen on TV since Rocky the
Flying Squirrel. Even more embarrassing....I own a
deck of 'Sponge Bob' Uno cards.
My
favorite character is Sandy Cheeks, the squirrel.
I can relate to her. She's a strong female and
she's from Texas. That's it. I really don't have
to justify any psychological analysis for this.
After all, it's a cartoon for sweets sake! I
simply love to laugh. It's been documented that
laughter can cure many illnesses. I can't vouch
for any of the studies, but I do know that a good
sense of humor can pull you through a serious
illness or a hard time. Sometimes you just have to
stop you're doing, take a few minutes and laugh at
something totally goofy. When my daughter was an
infant and would smile, my Daddy used to say her
face disappeared. 'Sponge
Bob' has that kind of effect on me.
This
fascination with the program began one day when I
put the television on the Nickelodeon channel for
my conure, Dude. To keep him from plucking his
feathers, we have to keep him stimulated, so he
watches country music videos and cartoons. 'Sponge
Bob' just happened to be on the channel at that
time and the rest is history.....I was hooked. I
found myself wanting more and more of the
sharp-witted, inane humor. Dude
and I sing along to the theme song, although he
can't carry a tune in a bucket. Actually, it's
more of a squawk.
There's
a new study out that suggests 'Sponge Bob' is
damaging to the minds of 4-year old children. Even
though the
kids weren't tested before they watched TV,
the research has linked the television program to
the development in certain self-control abilities.
Was Sesame Street included in this study? When my
children were young, I was told all that
fast-paced Muppet action was good for
them....helped them learn at a faster pace and was
instrumental in the development of their
creativity. OK. Here's my question: Why would a
parent allow their 4 year old child to watch
'Sponge Bob'? Stop and think about it....in
actuality, that child is only 48 months old! I
guess the study doesn't apply to Dude, because
he's a lot older than 4....he's 21.
And
now I see that Nick At Night is showing reruns of
'Friends' and 'That 70's Show.' This means kids
have the ability to view these adult shows at 8:00
PM on a so-called children's network. The American
Academy of Pediatrics should be concerned how
these two shows affect the minds of our young
children. I felt awkward watching them in mixed
company when they were on one of the mainstream
channels in prime time.....and I'm 792 months old!
Kindest
Wishes,
Charaleen Wright

DELTA
DOLCEVITA GALLERY COLLECTION
The
new Delta Gallery highlights the creativity
of its Italian artisans in eye-popping
one-of-a-kind finishes! The new member of
the Dolcevita family of writing instruments
is a tribute to the American Abstract
Expressionist artists of the mid-20th
century. Using traditional methods the
barrels are hand-turned from solid rods of
the unique multi-colored resin that recalls
the drip painting technique; no two are
exactly alike! This Delta Gallery fountain
pen is enriched with a hand-cast vermeil
accent band and 24K gold plated rolling-ring
clip and trim. The Delta Gallery fountain
pen offers a 14K gold nib and comes in two
models: the oversize piston-filler and the
medium-size that uses cartridges or
converter. The piston-filler draws ink
directly from a bottle and has a transparent
window to check your ink level. Let your
creativity flow!

STIPULA'S MODEL T
|
STIPULA
MODEL T FOUNTAIN PEN COLLECTION
This
pen is inspired by the famous car introduced by Henry Ford
in 1908, the so called "T- Model".
Henry
Ford, enterprising industrialist, American engineer and
planner, founded in 1903 the famous Ford Motor Company. The
new idea was to build simple and low cost cars, addressed to
the mass market of American middle class families; up to
that period the car was considered a hand-crafted object, at
an extremely high price, intended for a very limited public,
the "T Model" introduced an item easily acquirable
and a new mass consumption era started.
Ford
with its "T Model" contributed in drastically
changing everyday life habits and the look of towns.
"The civilisation of the car" of the XX century,
as it is commonly called, begun at this point.
The
reason of Ford's success was in the new process adopted to
reduce bulk costs: the mass production and the introduction
of assembly lines. The reduction of costs allowed Ford to
rise up the salaries, workers became this way part of the
middle class and turned into potential consumers of those
cars Ford was producing. Thanks to this advanced business
strategy a new economical model was created, the one which
would have led to a real social transformation: the "Fordism".
Stipula
Model T is even more unique now with introduction of new
colors in addition to the original black color. There is
graphite, with its black and white swirls; pyrite, with
glowing metallic accents; and malachite and azurite
recalling the minerals' natural texture.
Stipula
Model T is available as a fountain pen, speedball (a special
rollerball that can be charged with ink directly from a
bottle or a cartridge!) and twist ballpoint.
For the
fountain pen we selected a 6 mm titanium nib, available in a
unique flexible size. Titanium is a metal with a great
performance in terms of accuracy, flexibility and lightness.
This one size T-Flex nib allows for perfect writing at any
type of pressure. The filling system is cartridge/converter
and direct (a count drop is included in the packaging).
A pen
offering all the characteristics of a very high quality
fountain pen, but at a very accessible price to a wide
public. A pen meant for everyone.

TO SAVE A LIFE
It had been a
bad night. Admissions had occurred one after the other and the
beeper went off incessantly. The pediatric intern who
struggled to handle a dozen problems at once was exhausted.
Changing careers had been difficult for her, going from the
artsy world of modern dance in New York to the gritty reality
of medicine in an inner city hospital. She never thought that
it would be this difficult, but she was determined to keep
going. The first rays of dawn appeared. The beeper went off
once again, this time calling her to the ER. .....
