NOODLER'S BULLETPROOF KUNG TE-CHENG EYEDROPPER BOTTLED FOUNTAIN PEN INK

Ink was in use before there was paper – it was written upon bamboo strips. The enclosed ink has a story behind it that began with our first communications with Taiwanese and later mainland Chinese fountain pen ink users. This ink is our attempt to replicate the color, depth, behavior, properties, and general characteristics of the first royal ink of ancient China (and the first that was a stable color chemical based ink instead of less stable organic style ink subject to prompt color changes and fading).

As it is unique and quite apart from all the other inks made (though modern in characteristics such as resistance to UV light, pH neutrality, durability vrs. humidity, water, and the tools of the forger) we have enclosed two free pens with every bottle that we have tested extensively and believe will serve you well. They can accommodate two different writing styles while avoiding the infernal dipping that is the curse of brushes and dip pens – as their ink reservoirs are more than generous (far more than most other modern pens their size!).

The cost of this ink was a bit beyond the norm – so initially there will be 146 bottles. We reserve the right to increase this number later if it can be managed….but we also want all to know that we reserve the right to discontinue this ink if we fail to obtain raw materials for its continued production. As of the time of this writing, production beyond 146 units is very much in doubt.

How does one find the color of the Emperor’s ink – a color know to be the original royal color, a tinge of purple with deep blue hues? The color that later was also called "royal" in France (as well as Rome) – though clothing for the Emperor stressed royal Mandarin Yellow and the French court stressed blue/white and purple….the original royal ink was indeed this color. The ink stones – and precious remnants – just enough physical and documented information for the color and the characteristics of the ink….so that we could offer some of our customers a sample of the Emperor’s Ink – as close a replica to that royal ink as has ever been offered by an ink company...

About the label:
The exam was on the teachings of Confucius. It lasted for days of isolation in small buildings. Those who passed might become leaders in the government. Noodler’s wanted to find out what ink was used during these most grueling of all examinations in history, yet was given a hint as to what ink the Emperor of China used approximately 200 years after the death of Confucius. We have been told our black ink already has the depth of the "examination ink" of the age – if not greater. However, the ink used by the Emperor of China during the age whereby Confucius was most recognized for his greatness intrigued us far more. The quotes: `The weakest ink is mightier than the strongest memory.' and `the four precious necessities- pen, ink, paper, and ink stone' also intrigued us as they are attributed to Confucius (though we know Confucius likely wrote using bamboo strips as paper seems to have been developed a little later). Ink stones have remnants as to color – and a really good ink in theory might retain color for well over a hundred years (such as certain carmines have proven already) – and perhaps, outside normal expected probability…even several hundred years or more. What ink remnants and/or colors were on the ink stones of the Emperors of China? The era of Confucius and later was of greatest interest. The preference was for a blue purple – a prime based purple as opposed to the more western violet/magenta and red/blue non-prime mixtures. The information has been limited and all the more so due to the distance of time and the difficulty in getting museums and collectors to cooperate in this quest. As a manner of extending gratitude and thanks for the assistance we have received it is named in honor of the 77th lineal descendent of Confucius, Mr. Kung Te-cheng.

This is the STRONGEST of all vintage Emperor/Royal Inks.
