FABER-CASTELL PORSCHE STAINLESS STEEL MECHANICAL PENCIL

The shaft of the pencil is formed by ‘TecFlex’ in a special steel version. All other metal parts feature high-quality silver plating and a palladium coating for a silky, matt finish. The pencil is fitted with a break resistant 0.7-mm polymer lead refill. Concealed under the cap is an extremely efficient eraser.

And rightly so, because this stainless steel design has special qualities, as we shall see when we take a look at the world of racing. The 24-hour motor race at Le Mans is considered to be the toughest in the world. One particularly critical area is the large number of highly sensitive electronic connections. To protect these connections from heat and mechanical strain, teams use a TecFlex stainless steel structure as a safety coating. The success has been amazing: TecFlex has superb anti-corrosive qualities, as well as being highly flexible and extremely resistant to wear and tear. Stainless steel is a fascinating combination of nickel, chromium, molybdenum and tungsten. Its specific qualities include resistance to wear and tear and an almost unlimited durability of the surface. Combination with threads of gold adds further brilliance. The threads have a silver coating and are covered by a lavish layer of 585-type fine plated gold [= 14 carat]. All other metal parts feature high-quality silver plating, together with a layer of palladium, and the satin-finished shine harmonizes superbly with the shape and function of the instrument.
